What is recorded here

Marked as an enclosure with trees on the 1837 and 1915 eds of the OS 6-inch map, and situated on the NW-facing slope of a broad hill. Circular grass-covered area with mature deciduous trees on the perimeter (diam. 59.3m N-S; 59m E-W) defined by an earthen bank (Wth 4m; int. H 0.2-0.4m; ext. H 0.7-1.2m) which is best preserved (Wth 7.5m; int. H 0.8m; ext. H 1.2-1.5m) S-W, and a rounded fosse (Wth of top 4-5m; Wth of base 1.5-3m; D 0.1-0.4m). There are modern entrances at E (Wth 1.8m) and WNW (Wth 2m), and it may be a tree-ring. Compiled by: Michael Moore Date of upload: 24 August 2010
