What is recorded here

On top of the SW end of a NE-SW ridge, utilising the natural fall of the ridge on the S side as a natural defensive feature. Situated in poorly drained land with a fulacht fiadh (TS050-023----) c. 80m to the NE. A slightly raised circular area (int. diam. 29m N-S; 29.1m E-W) enclosed by a poorly preserved earth and stone bank (top Wth 3.6m; base Wth 6.8m; int. H 0.2m; ext. H 1.9m), fosse (Wth 2.2m; ext. D 1m) and external bank (top Wth 2m; base Wth 3.8m; ext. H 0.3m) visible from SSW through W to N only. From NE through E to SSW the interior is defined by a scarp (ext. H 0.9m) and outer berm (Wth 5.8m) with no evidence of an enclosing fosse or external bank. This could be due to the natural defensiveness of the ridge on this side. There is a possible entrance gap (Wth 2.8m) in the bank at the S. Compiled by: Jean Farrelly Date of upload: 26 August 2011
