What is recorded here

Indicated is a ruined circular belvedere in the demesne of Ballyclogh Castle, built on a man-made stone mound in County Cork. Its four wide openings faced the cardinal directions, inviting people to climb the mound and read the horizon as a living chart. The tower has fallen back into grass and memory, but the shape still points outward, as if measurement itself had become a room.

In tillage, in demesne of Ballyclogh Castle (14337). Remains of circular (diam. c. 3m) stone-built tower, built on top of man-made, tree-covered stone mound (H c. 4m). Random-rubble limestone wall (H c. 4m) with slight base batter, internal walls plastered. Internal ground floor slightly raised. Four large opes (Wth c. 1.1m) to E, S, W and N, ope to E probably a door. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork.
