Indicated is a fairy fort or earthen ringfort in Ardakillin, County Roscommon, Ireland. It occupies a subcircular grass-covered area on a rise along an east-west ridge. An earthen bank with a hedge surrounds most of the site, while a rounded fosse cuts through the ground beside it. A narrow entrance and wider causeway break the boundary at the north-northwest.
On a rise on an E-W ridge. Subcircular grass-covered area (dims 46.3m E-W; 40.4m N-S) defined by an earthen bank with a hedge (Wth 4-5.5m; int. H 0.2m at W to 1.2m at N; ext. H 1.4m at W to 2.2m E-S) W-N-S but reduced to a scarp (H 1m) SW-W, and a rounded fosse (Wth of top 4.2m at W to 7.8m at E; Wth of base 1.8m at W to 3m at E; D 0.2m S-W to 0.8m at E). The entrance (Wth 1.9m) and causeway (Wth 4m) are at NNW (max. ext. dims 61.3m E-W; 53.5m N-S). Rath (RO028-099----) is c. 110m to the SW. Compiled by: Michael Moore Date of upload: 24 August 2010
