Indicated is a fairy fort or earthen ringfort in Ardakillin, County Roscommon, Ireland. The subcircular grass-covered area sits on an east-west drumlin ridge and measures 43 metres from east-north-east to west-south-west. An overgrown earthen bank defines the perimeter, while a band of reeds marks the fosse to the west and north. Entrances appear at the north-north-west, south-east and south-south-west, with Rath located about 110 metres to the north-east.
On an E-W drumlin ridge. Subcircular grass-covered area (dims 43m ENE-WSW; 39m NNW-SSE) defined by an overgrown earthen bank (Wth 4.3m; int. H 0.5m; ext. H 1.1m) SE-S and W-N (Wth 3-3.5m; int. H 0.2-0.8m; ext. H 1-1.4m), with a fosse visible as a band of reeds (Wth 2.5m) W-N. The perimeter is incorporated into a field bank and hedge N-E, but reduced to a scarp (H 1m) S-W. There are entrances at NNW (Wth 2.8m), SE (Wth 4m) and SSW (Wth 2.1m). Rath (RO028-100----) is c. 110m to the NE. Compiled by: Michael Moore Date of upload: 24 August 2010
