Hut site in Grousemount

New site identified by John Cronin & Associates (JCA) under Licence No. 16E0127 prior to wind farm development in Grousemount, Kilgarvan, Co. Kerry by ESB Wind Development Ltd. The remains of a previously unidentified hut site were observed utilising the natural L-shaped formation of two of the large rocks to the east and north of the centre line of the original planned access spur to T.07 at ITM grid co-ordinate 509948, 569911. Two low walls comprising random, loose stones, one measuring 2.7m east-west and another measuring 6.4m north-south were constructed against the L-shaped rock formation to form a rectangular structure. The wall remains were a maximum of 0.4m or four courses in height, and one course or 0.5m in width. A 0.7m wide gap at the south end of the west wall may represent an entrance, the internal dimensions of the structure measure 5.2m north-south by 2.1m east-west. An additional wall, measuring 1.1m in length north-south and 0.9m in height, blocks a gap between the two natural rock formations in the northeast corner of the structure.
