Hut site in Ferganstown and Ballymacon

Located at the W edge of a fairly level landscape and at the crest of a steep slope down (H c. 12m) to the flood-plain of a S-N section of the River Boyne. Hanley (1999, 12-13) in an excavation (99E0178) trench (L 21m; Wth 1.5m) identified a curving slot-trench (Wth 0.4-0.5m; D 0.1-0.2m) that would have enclosed a circular area (int. diam. c. 4.1m). It was c. 20m N of the entrance to the Man-made underground passage (ME025-058001-) but no other features are associated with it and no artefacts were recovered (excavations.ie 1999:687), but this could well be part of the foundation trench of small hut-site.
