Hut site in Carrigans Upper

In rocky pasture, on a gentle S-facing slope 4m to the S of a cliff-face (H 2m). A circular area (4m N-S; 4.1m E-W) defined by an earth and stone bank (int. H 0.4m; ext. H 0.25m). The bank consists of rubble limestone covered by earth and moss and is best preserved on either side of the entrance where it is contained within two parallel rows of upright limestone slabs. These slabs also survive sporadically along the inner face of the bank, especially along the S arc. The bank is eroded and lower WSW-N. The entrance (Wth 0.85m) is at ENE and is lined with vertical limestone slabs. The interior is level and clear of overgrowth and is raised at S to compensate for the underlying natural slope and is slightly lower than the external ground level at N.
