According to the Civil Survey (1654-5) in 1640 in 'Religmurry' there 'stands a good slate house' which was under the proprietorship of 'James Earle of Ormond …[who] leased the same to James Butler of Derryloskane, and the sd. James did lease the same againe to Mr. Thomas Groue and sett by him to Coll. Richard Lehunt' (Simington 1934, vol. 2, 6). The 17th-century Religmurry appears to equate to the modern townland of Mantlehill Great. The house referred to is unlocated within this townland.
