What is recorded here

According to the Civil Survey (1654-6) on the lands of Castlejohn there stood 'a slate house' which in 1640 was under the proprietorship of 'James Tobyn of Killaghy Esqr. Irish Papist' (Simington 1931, vol. 1, 142). There is no visible trace of this house above ground and as the exact location is unknown, though it may have been situated within the vicinity of Castle John tower house (TS072-004001-), it is unlocated within the townland.
