Tobernagloghlin is associated with Saint Ita, a 6th-century Irish abbess and patron saint of Killeedy in County Limerick, known for her healing wells and monastic foundation. The well's name, derived from "Tobar na glogh lin" (well of the green flag), reflects a tradition of using a green cloth or flag in rituals for healing and protection.
