What is recorded here

Lands at Castle Ellis were granted to Henry Ó Murrogha or Ó Murchú in 1618 but it is not clear if a house was built (Loeber, Stouthamer-Loeber 1987, 199). According to the Civil Survey (1654-6) William Satchiverell, a Protestant, owned 430 acres in 1640 in the townlands of Castle Ellis, Slievenagrane, Bolaboy and Ballyknockan, but there is no record of a castle (Simington 1953, 55). In the same survey Brian Morchoe owned 340 acres in the townlands of Garrymore, Courtclough, and the unknown Kildarrant. If a house was built it remains unlocated.
