House

The Late Neolithic (c. 2800 BC - c. 2500 BC) is represented by this possible rectangular house (Structure VI), and another house, Structure V, c. 80m to the W on the other side of the ridge. This structure (dims 6m E-W; 2m N-S) is on the E-facing slope of the spur, and is represented by three of its four corner posts, the other being removed by a later pit. It has no other features associated with it and only one chert platform flake was recovered from one of the postholes, which also provided a C14 date of 2870-2490 cal. BC (SUERC 29343) placing it in the Late Neolithic. Two small pits (diam. 0.44-054m; D 0.1m) c. 2m to the S are probably contemporary with it and one of them produced 17 sherds of Grooved ware. An intact Grooved ware pot had also been set in a soft sandy subsoil c. 10m SW of the structure. The only other indication of pure Late Neolithic activity is a small pit outside the NW wall of the Early Neolithic house Structure 3 that had two sherds of Grooved ware.
