What is recorded here
Terraced three-bay two-storey house with Tudor-Gothic detailing, built c.1835. Now no longer occupied. Pitched natural slate roof with rendered chimneystacks to either end and cast-iron rainwater goods. Roughcast rendered walls over rubble stone construction, smooth rendered plinth to base. Square-headed window openings with cut stone sills. One-over-one pane timber sliding sash windows to first floor openings, tripartite one-over-one pane timber sliding sash windows with wrought-iron window guards to ground floor windows. Central square-headed doorcase with early timber panelled door and chamfered dressed limestone surround with hoodmoulding over. Fronting onto footpath at road edge towards east-end of Kilbeggan.
An attractive modest-scale building which retains its early character, form and fabric. The tripartite sash windows on the ground floor imitate mullioned windows, which compliments the imposing and impressive Tudor-Gothic detailing of the doorcase. This appealing building is similar in style to the former hotel at the east end of Kilbeggan (15321051), which suggests that these structures may have been built as part of the same building project. Although this building is now out of use it is an important visual element of the streetscape, creating an interesting contrast within the predominately classical late-Georgian character of Kilbeggan.
