Corner-sited attached three-bay two-storey former house, built c. 1800, with lower three-storey wing to north-east built 1892 facing onto Earl Street, and with flat roof extension to rear. Formerly in use as RIC barracks, currently in use as shop. Pitched artificial slate roof with rendered chimneystacks and uPVC rainwater goods. Hipped artificial slate roof to wing with some cast-iron rainwater goods. Painted lined-and-ruled rendered walls. Painted render quoins to west end of front elevation and limestone quoins to corner having carved plaque with lettering 'EGMONT PLACE' and 'EARL STREET'. Square-headed window openings, front elevation having painted moulded render surrounds and keystone detail and side elevation having render surrounds, all with replacement uPVC windows and limestone sills. Elliptical-headed door opening having timber panelled door with decorative cobweb fanlight and moulded render archivolt, flanked by recessed engaged columns and having limestone step and threshold. Square-headed door opening to wing with limestone fascia and cornice under recent canopy, and having limestone cornice above. Much altered interior, with meat hooks and carved timber dresser to former kitchen.

This elegant classically-proportioned house retains many important features and materials such as its fine doorcase and limestone sills. Despite refenestration and extensions, the original form and character of this building remain relatively intact. The house, through its symmetry and continuous roofline, contributes significantly to the streetscape. The original house was leased to the RIC in 1892 and the three-storey wing was built to provide dormitories.
