outbuilding57 yd

Explorer Tom Outbuilding in Athgoe might be made of mud. Built around 1890, it has possible mud walls which is rare and kinda gross. It’s got a metal rolling door that looks industrial. Take a snap of the dirtiness!

Athgoe HillMountain / peak · 283 yd

Explorer Tom Athgoe Hill in County Dublin is just a hill with a house and castle nearby. It sounds impressive, but it’s really just a bump in the landscape pretending to be something more important than your average suburban slope.

BarrowBarrow, unclassified · 443 yd

Explorer Tom Barrow in Highdownhill has a long list of former names and I’ve forgotten them all by now. Stand back, squint hard, and it looks like a castle built by a very confused giant with bad taste.

Athgoe CastleStables · 456 yd

Explorer Tom Athgoe Castle is actually just stables from the 1800s, but they look so serious about it. Brick arches and all. I bet the horses are judging your outfit right now. Say hi to the ghosts!

Earthwork in AthgoeEarthwork · 547 yd

Explorer Tom Earthwork in Athgoe is a circular cropmark on rising ground near a barrow. It's about 60 meters across, but you'll only see it if you look at the right Google Earth imagery from January 2017.

Saint Finian's WellSpring · 1310 yd

Explorer Tom Saint Finian's Well in County Dublin is guarded by a chapel that looks suspiciously like a photo from Wikipedia. It’s probably full of holy water and questionable history. Don’t get your feet wet, you’ll regret it later!

CastleCastle, tower house · 1451 yd

Explorer Tom Castle in Newcastle North is a flat-topped mound that looks like a giant’s pillow left out in the rain. It’s been sitting there since 1200, judging the church next door without saying a word. Snap one photo, then put the phone away and actually look.

European Yew1.1 mi

Explorer Tom European Yew in County Dublin has an imaginary fan club called 'The Conifer Lovers' who meet underground. They probably argue about which branch is the most majestic and throw leaves at each other. Bring a flask of something warm and a story to swap with them.

Grand Canal WayWalking route · 2.3 mi

Explorer Tom Grand Canal Way in County Dublin has a bird that refuses to leave, which is funny because the rest of the canal is pretty quiet except for the occasional duck who thinks it owns the whole waterway and will dive-bomb your feet if you get too close. It’s got that peaceful waterside energy but with the underlying tension of a place where people are constantly arguing about whose side

Reeves CastleCastle · 2.4 mi

Explorer Tom Reeves Castle seems to have a permanent glare at any tourist who thinks they’re too cool for the countryside. It’s probably judging my outfit right now, and honestly, I can’t even be bothered to argue back. Pretend you’re a lost aristocrat, nobody will check.

Rathcoole ParkPark · 2.4 mi

Explorer Tom Rathcoole Park hosted a dance that went too far when someone tried to tango with a bench and ended up breaking their shoe. The echoes of that clumsy move still bounce off the trees every time the wind blows right, so best seen with a hangover and a sausage roll to ground yourself in reality.

Cupidstown HillMountain / peak · 4.3 mi

Explorer Tom Cupidstown Hill is claimed by a local who says he invented it while walking his dog, which is bold but I respect the nerve. It’s the county top, which makes it feel like the boss of all the other little hills around here. Toast it with a cup of tea and move on to the next one.
