Detached four-bay single-storey house with attic level, built c.1815, having a single-bay entrance porch to the centre of the main elevation (east). Now out of use and derelict. Pitched corrugated metal roof with raised rendered verges to either gable end (north and south) and a pair of central rendered chimneystacks. Roughcast rendered walls with square-headed window openings having cut stone sills and two-over-two pane timber sliding sash windows. Square-headed door opening to projecting porch with timber sheeted half-door. Set back from road in overgrown grounds with complex of single-storey rubble limestone outbuildings to site, having pitched natural slate or corrugated metal roofs and square-headed openings with remains of early timber fittings. Rendered boundary wall to road frontage having a pair of rendered gate piers supporting a wrought-iron gate. Located to the east of Glassan.
A modest early nineteenth-century vernacular cottage, which retains its original form and charm, despite its current dilapidated condition. This building was originally thatched and has a simple but well-proportioned entrance porch. It retains much of its early fabric including timber sliding sash windows and the rare survival of an early timber sheeted half-door to the entrance porch. The complex of modest rubble stone outbuildings and the wrought-iron gate complete this appealing composition. This is a typical example of a vernacular dwelling found in the low-lying areas of the country, where animals were housed in separate accompanying byres and outbuildings. It represents a worthy addition to the vernacular heritage of Westmeath.
