Holy well in Knockatoor

Holy well

What is recorded here

In improved pasture, to immediate NW of cairn (TS060-072001-). No visible surface trace. According to OS Namebooks (O'Donovan 1840), this is the 'site of a well, [and] a small cairn with a cross upon it'. Compiled by: Jean Farrelly Date of upload: 09 July 2014
Linked to an early Christian tradition, the site is associated with a small cairn and cross, suggesting a possible connection to a local saint or pilgrimage practice. While no specific saint or cure is recorded, such wells were often believed to have healing properties and were sites of votive offerings.

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
