Holy well in Kilmurry

Holy well

What is recorded here

According to Power (1952, 131) the church of Kilmurry (WA030-071----) might be found close to the house of a John O'Donnell, with a holy well called Tobar Mhuire nearby. It remains unlocated. Power, Rev. P. (1952) The placenames of the Decies. (second ed.) Cork University Press. Date of upload/revision: 11th August, 2011. Compiled by: Michael Moore.
Linked to St. Mary (Tobar Mhuire), the well is traditionally associated with healing and pilgrimage, common features of early Christian holy wells in Ireland. No specific local cure or tradition is recorded, but such wells were often sites of votive offerings and seasonal rituals.

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
