John O’Donovan writing c. 1840 describes a holy well at Kildavin Upper, which was known as St. Catherine’s well and which had a cure for sore eyes. St. Catherine’s well in Kildavin Upper was traditionally associated with a cure for sore eyes. The well was recorded in use during the 1840s, though its exact location remains unknown.
