Holy well in Aughris (tireragh By.)

In pasture, situated a short distance above the rocky shoreline at Aughris Head. Not marked on any edition of the OS 6-inch map. When inspected in 1993 this holy well consisted of a natural spring flowing from beneath a scarped slope where the field borders the shoreline. Since that date, the spring has been enclosed by stone slabs to create a small pool or well. Adjacent to the spring, a modern drystone wall (L 3m; H 1.7m), constructed of stone slabs, has been built against the scarp, enclosing a slab-lined altar (L 1.55m; W 0.7m) on which stands a small modern statue of the Virgin Mary. Immediately to E of this is a 'prayer cairn' of small stones. According to local tradition, the well is dedicated to St. Patrick. The whole complex is enclosed by a post and wire fence.
