THE HIGH POSSIL METEORITE Near this site on 5th April 1804 fell the first recorded meteorite in Scotland. It can be seen in the Hunterian Museum University of Glasgow.
High Possil Meteorite Memorial was erected at Possil Marsh to mark where Scotland's first recorded meteorite fell in April 1804. It marks one of the early verified falls that helped establish meteorites as real objects arriving from beyond Earth

Witnesses recovered fragments of the fall, and one later entered the University of Glasgow's Hunterian collection
How it worked
The stone was installed for the fall's two-hundredth anniversary and connects the event to early scientific study of meteorites

The memorial stone, inscription, nature-reserve setting and the surviving meteorite specimen remain
Why it mattered
It marks one of the early verified falls that helped establish meteorites as real objects arriving from beyond Earth
