Hamilton Goold-Adams

Goold-Adams is the rare governor who bled for the colony before governing it, having commanded the Town Guard through the latter half of the Siege of Mafeking and earning two mentions in despatches. Born the fourth son in Jamesbrook, County Cork, in 1858, he carried that Irish lineage into Queensland, where he served as Governor from 1915 until his death in Cape Town in 1920. His authority did not arrive in a carriage; it arrived scarred from the interior, shaped by expeditions and siege fire rather than distant office work.
