Moated site

What is recorded here

Situated on a very slight natural rise on low lying marshy land. The surrounding hilly and undulating grass-land rises from the site in all directions. The townland boundary with Ballybeg is 60m to SW. Depicted on the 1837 ed. OS 6-inch map as ‘Rathniska’. Poorly preserved monument almost completely levelled. Remains consist of a sub-rectangular shaped area (approx. dims. 50m NE-SW; 48m E-W) enclosed by a wide external fosse (max. Wth 7.2m).
