Griddle beg na Vean

Wedge tomb

What is recorded here

Griddle beg na Vean is a wedge tomb in Caltragh (tireragh By., Rathmacurkey Ed), County Sligo, Ireland. The Irish name points loosely to a small flat stone connected with a woman or female figure. This folkloric label has replaced the original meaning of the monument. The site belongs to the same prehistoric landscape as Carrowmore and Knocknarea, where farming communities built stone tombs thousands of years ago.

Portal dolmen; likely dates to the Neolithic period. This tomb type is significant as it represents an early form of megalithic funerary architecture associated with communal burial practices in early Irish society.

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
