Kilmacuagh holds a graveyard tied to the lost church of Cill Mhic Duach, named by John O'Donovan in the 1830s. The only man living there in his fifties knew no other church, suggesting the buried place still shapes local memory even when its walls have vanished. Ballynafad appears as a possible alternative, yet nobody mentioned a graveyard there, leaving Kilmacuagh as the more likely site of the old Christian community.

John O'Donovan writing in the 1830s (O'Flanagan 1931, vol. 1, 50) refers to a church of Cill Mhic Duach which is probably the supposed church (RO036-013002-). The only man (50s) living in the townland of Kilmacuagh knew of no church other than (RO036-013002-). It is possible that the church of Ballynafad (RO029-140----) could have been intended, but nobody mentioned a graveyard. Compiled by: Michael Moore Date of upload: 24 August 2010
