Graveyard in Colmanstown

Graveyard

What is recorded here

Mortally curious indeed. A graveyard in Colmanstown, County Dublin. Sub-circular plan hints an early ecclesiastical enclosure. Yew trees still stand within the wall. Grass and forgetting have done the rest.
The graveyard which contains some yew trees is located on a natural rise on land which falls away to the E. This walled-in graveyard is very overgrown. It is sub-circular in plan suggesting the former existence of an early ecclesiastical enclosure (DU020-009004-). Inside the graveyard wall along the E/NE quadrant there are traces of a bivallate enclosure (dims. ext. fosse Wth 2.75m, D 1.15m; int. bank Wth 1.25m, H 0.8m; int. fosse Wth 4m, D 1.1m). Compiled by Geraldine Stout
