Graveslab in Moydow Glebe

In the SW quadrant of the graveyard (LF019-030001-). One of two (see also LF019-030003-) late-17th-century, recumbent, rectangular graveslabs (L 2.1m; Wth 0.95m; T 0.16m). The inscription, carved in false relief, is barely decipherable. The monogram 'IHS' is carved on the head and has a fleur-de-lis cross rising from the centre of the cross-bar of the H. At the base a D-shaped surround contains the cross-and-bones motif immediately above the letters 'mementomori'[remember that you must die]. Baxter (1999, 86-7, no. 129) read the inscription thus: ‘Here lyeth Brian maclisagh of the/family of Thomas Mor Cahill Ferr/all of Barry who dyed 1692 his wife/Ellinor Ferrall of the family of Rawreach/who dyed 1693. Alfo his brother James Fer/rall who dyed 16?? his ? brother ? reverend/Fa Hubert Ferrall parish priest of Mo/ydow who dyed 16(77?) the reverend fa/Charles Ferrall parish priest of Rathclin/caused this tomb to be made in remem/brance of them’.
