school423 yd

Explorer Tom School in Beagh would handle a nosey neighbour by pretending it’s just a very fancy shed. The red brick surrounds around the windows are quite the statement piece for such a modest building. It's free, it's odd, and it's definitely there.

Prospect HouseHouse · 443 yd

Explorer Tom Prospect House wants to win the county fair with its modest charm and fancy fanlight. It thinks those pilasters make it look expensive, which is hilarious given how small it is. Bring a coin for luck and maybe some cream.

Beagh Castle (in ruins)Castle, tower house · 1654 yd

Explorer Tom Beagh Castle ended up on the wrong cliff because someone got lost with the surveyor. It’s been standing there looking slightly offended ever since, watching the Shannon go by. Wave at the cows, they're the real locals.

(Site of) Grave YardBurial ground · 1.3 mi

Explorer Tom Graveyard in Milltown is haunted by the fact that its first owner had an escape plan involving a very fast donkey, which nobody seems to remember anymore. The whole place looks like a ringfort that gave up on the whole fort business halfway through. Find the wonkiest bit and send it to your group chat.

IndicatedFairy fort / earthen ringfort · 1.6 mi

Explorer Tom Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Newtown somehow ended up on the wrong slope and now acts like it belongs there perfectly. It’s got a bank that looks like it was built by someone who ran out of patience halfway. Toast it with a cup of tea and move on to the next.

Courtbrown PointHeadland · 2.3 mi

Explorer Tom Courtbrown Point would teach history by just standing still and letting the wind do the talking. It’s a headland that has seen everything, so it doesn’t bother explaining itself to anyone who wanders past. Stand still and listen, the wind tells it better than me.

Tomdeely CastleCastle · 3.1 mi

Explorer Tom Tomdeely Castle would tell its younger self to stop trying so hard to look mysterious, because it just looks like a tired old pile of rocks. It’s been sitting there judging everyone’s fashion choices for generations without saying a word. Have a look and decide if I was lying.

Shannon Airport Aviation GalleryMuseum · 3.3 mi

Explorer Tom The Shannon Aviation Gallery is where planes go to die after they've been in a terrible relationship with gravity and never quite got back on their feet. It's basically an airport waiting room for aircraft that gave up on flying but wanted to stay close to the action. A handy spot to stretch your legs and your imagination.

Askeaton CastleHeritage attraction · 3.5 mi

Explorer Tom Askeaton Castle in County Limerick claims to hide a royal treasure, but I bet it’s just an old biscuit tin with sticky crumbs inside. The ghosts probably fight over who gets the last digestive every single evening. A good place to forget your phone for ten minutes.

Sweet Chestnut3.6 mi

Explorer Tom Sweet Chestnut in County Limerick would be the uncle at a wedding who spills wine on his trousers and laughs. It’s charmingly chaotic and always knows where the snacks are hidden. Find the wonkiest bit and send it to your group chat.

European Yew4.3 mi

Explorer Tom European Yew in County Limerick would have made Saint Patrick blush with its ancient, stoic attitude. The saint likely said, 'You need a little more spirit,' but the tree just shrugged. Bring curiosity, leave with a better story than mine.

Pan Am Flight 1-10Aviation accident · 5.1 mi

Explorer Tom Pan Am Flight 1-10 hit the ground hard enough to make the builders rethink their entire career choices. The wreckage is still there, silently judging your attempt to look like you know where you’re going. Stand still and listen, the wind tells it better than me.
