What is recorded here

Situated on an E-facing slope at the base of a high NE-SW ridge. Named on the 1838 OS 6-inch map as 'Site of Church & Graveyard'. A small subcircular area (dims. 18.3m NW-SE; 14m NE-SW) defined by a wall (Wth 2m; H 0.2m) within a much larger D-shaped area (dims. 56m NW-SE; 17m NE-SW) backing on to a stream (straight side) at the NE. There is no trace of a church and no grave-markers, the only internal feature being a line of stones which may have been part of a plinth. Local information suggests it may have been used until the turn of the century for the burial of unbaptised infants.

Church (Site of), Grave YardChurch · 7 yd

Explorer Tom Church in Clone is playing hide-and-seek so well it’s vanished into thin air. The wall says hi, but the church itself has gone on a permanent holiday. Bring a flask of something warm and a story to swap.

IndicatedFairy fort / earthen ringfort · 305 yd

Explorer Tom Fairy fort in Clone has an escape plan so detailed I’m starting to think its first owner was a professional spy. The walls are thick enough to keep out dragons or really nosy neighbours, which is basically the same thing around here. Go on, count the windows and get it wrong like I did.

Clone HouseFarm house · 489 yd

Explorer Tom Clone House caused the whole parish to argue for years over whether its roof was actually a hat. It has grown organically since then, adding bits and pieces like a fashion statement gone wrong. Don't knock on the door unless you want a story about hats.

The Old ForgeHouse · 1.4 mi

Explorer Tom The Old Forge is planning its retirement by doing absolutely nothing at all. This thatched house has preserved its historic form and is very smug about it. Ring your neighbour if you hear the chimney snoring loudly tonight.

CastleCastle, motte · 1.7 mi

Explorer Tom Castle in Kilpipe has a dating profile that says ‘seeking someone who doesn’t ask too many questions about my past or my lack of walls.’ It’s confident, slightly arrogant, and absolutely refuses to commit to a specific architectural style. Tell the next person you meet it's haunted. It might be.

(Site of) CastleCastle, unclassified · 2.2 mi

Explorer Tom Castle in Aughrim Upper is so invisible that you’d miss it if you were blindfolded, which is a bit cheeky for a site of such importance. There’s a curse on it that only hits people who don’t wave when they pass by the Castle Field. Do a big stretch and a bigger yawn instead.

Croghan KinsellaMountain / peak · 2.7 mi

Explorer Tom Croghan Kinsella in County Wicklow has a shortcut that everyone claims saves twenty minutes but actually adds forty because of the bog. It loves watching people try it and then looking back at the long way with regret. If it's closed, admire it from the road like a polite stalker.

Woodenbridge World War One MemorialMemorial · 3.2 mi

Explorer Tom Woodenbridge World War One Memorial caused a massive parish argument about who planted the first flower bed here. It’s still unresolved, and honestly, that’s half the charm of the whole thing. Bring your own legend, I've run out.

Sweet Chestnut3.6 miWhite Heaps 1798Memorial · 3.7 mi

Explorer Tom White Heaps 1798 has a memorial with a bird that absolutely refuses to leave, no matter how much you shoo it away. It’s been there since the eighteenth century and still hasn’t figured out where its beak is pointed. Bring wellies and low expectations, leave delighted.

Scots Pine3.7 miMonalee HillMountain / peak · 4.2 mi

Explorer Tom Monalee Hill suspects the postman is stealing letters and hiding them in the turf. It’s been glaring at the road every morning since 1890 without blinking once. Tell me if the gossip I made up is true.
