Grave Yard in County Cork has buried people since at least 1764, when the earliest surviving headstone was set into the trapezoidal ground beside the old parish church of Kilmeen. The church is gone, but the graveyard widened westward and still receives the dead. Local memory places a hidden holy well in the north-east corner, now without even a stone mark, as if the grave yard itself swallowed the water and kept it.

On N side of road. Shown on 1842 OS 6-inch map as trapezoidal graveyard (c. 40m E-W; c. 35m N-S); site of parish church of Kilmeen (14394) in centre. Graveyard extended to W between 1842 and 1904 OS 6-inch maps. In use; earliest headstone noted dated 1764. According to local information, holy well without stone surround formerly in NE corner of graveyard; no visible surface trace.
