Gate Lodge

Built into a steep slope on the N side of a road overlooking the River Flesk to the N. A two-storey castellated tower, octagonal in plan, over a square basement (int. 3.08m x 3.03m). Built of random rubble with some brick, rendered over and incised to resemble ashlar. Pointed door ope in the S wall with rectangular window opes on either side and a single first floor window over the door; ope surrounds of cut limestone with hood-mouldings. Fireplace in the NW corner of the basement and a stove flue in the N wall of the first floor. Associated yard and storage structures at basement level. Named 'Gate Lodge' on the 1846 OS 6-inch map near the avenue to Flesk Castle (KE066-132---) c. 300m to the SE.
