In pasture, atop drumlin, ringfort (CO118-062001-) in same field to SSW. Rectangular stone aligned NE-SW (H 1.3m; 0.52m x 0.25m). The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 1: West Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1992). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 14 January 2009
Likely dating to the early medieval period, this standing stone may be associated with the nearby ringfort, possibly serving a ritual or territorial marker function. Local folklore sometimes links such stones to protective or ancestral spirits.
