What is recorded here

Galláin is a broken stone pair on a boggy Cork slope where one upright leans southwest and a larger slab lies fallen beside it. The third small stone may have packed the fallen slab in place before time or storm released it. A five-stone circle waits seventy metres away, suggesting this is not a random scatter but a damaged ritual landscape.

On level patch of rough boggy ground, on N-facing slope. Depicted as pair of standing stones and named 'Galláin' on 1940 OS 6-inch map. Upright stone (H 1.4m; 0.65m x 0.55m) leans to SW; long axis NE-SW. Second stone (L 2.4m; 0.85m x 0.65m), 0.7m to SW, has fallen; lying NW-SE. Third stone (H 0.34m; 0.54m x 0.28m), protruding above ground 0.95m to S of upright stone, may have acted as packing stone to fallen slab; long axis N-S. Five-stone circle (CO058-029----) in same field c. 70m to SSW. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork.
