What is recorded here

Excavated (E3490) during 2005 by T. Breen as part of Site 26 at Raheenagurren West, which was one of the excavations undertaken in advance of the construction of the N11 Arklow-Gorey link-road. Situated in a low-lying, flood-prone area which had an ancient NW-SE water course (Wth c. 5.5m; D 0.6m) running through it. A kidney-shaped mound of broken and burnt stone (Feature 3) (dims. 10.8m x 7m; max. T 0.4m) overlay a rectangular trough (dims. 2.1m x 1.71m; max. D 0.53m) with a flat bottom that had 15 stake-holes concentrated in the corners. A smaller oval trough (dims. 0.77m x 0.58m; D 0.1m) was nearby. The burnt mound produced 25 pieces of debitage together with medieval and post-medieval pottery. Fulacht fia (WX012-034004-) is immediately to the W. (Breen 2008a, 2008, 6-7.)
