Fulacht fia in Quarry

Identified in centre-line testing (E4110) in advance of the M11 Gorey to Enniscorthy road scheme and set aside for resolution as Quarry 2 (Hardy et al. 2010, 50). It is situated at the bottom of a SW-facing slope with an E-W stream 20m to the S and a smaller NE-SW stream is c. 40m to the N. The smaller stream meets the larger c. 90m to the W. It was completely excavated (E4261) by Y. Whitty as a spread of broken and burnt stone (dims 8m E-W; 4m N-S; T 0.1m) lying over a rectangular trough (dims 2.25m E-W; 1.4m N-S; D 0.4m) that appeared to cut a subcircular feature (dims 1.4m E-W; 1.1m N-S; D 0.1m) at N. A pit (dims 0.95m x 0.6m; D 0.3m) was 3m SSW of the trough. All the features contained burnt mound material, but a sample from the S pit proved to be modern.
