What is recorded here
In reclaimed pasture, c. 18m E of a stream. This fulacht fia was excavated in 1999 in advance of the construction of the N8 Glanmire-Watergrasshill Bypass. Prior to excavation, it consisted of a low grass-covered mound (c. 8m N-S; c. 8m E-W; H 0.5m) of heat-shattered stones and charcoal-enriched soil. Excavation revealed an oval mound (4m E-W; c. 3m N-S; H 0.56m) of heat-shattered stones with two spreads of heat-shattered stones mixed with soil extending to the NE and W of the mound. The two spreads are likely to have been the result of disturbance of the mound by machinery. An oval pit (2m x 1.5m; D 0.25m) filled with burnt stone lay c. 2.5m NE of the mound. A rectangular pit (1.5m x 1.5m; D 0.38m), also filled with burnt stones and including a quantity of white clay which may have formed a lining, lay 6m to the SE of the oval pit. Two other fulachtaí fia (CO053-092002-, CO053-092003-) lay c. 15m and c. 45m to the NE, respectively. (Cotter 2000d, 1-8; 2000e, 33, site A)
