What is recorded here

An ancient cooking site lies beneath the Galmoy plain, marked by a dark heart of fire-shattered stone and a wide halo of ash. People may have gathered there to heat water for food or rituals long before the mines appeared, leaving behind a kitchen that time forgot. The discovery during modern construction reminds us that ordinary ground often hides unusual lives.

On level ground in a low-lying plain of the River Gaul. Discovered during the monitoring of the construction of a third tailings pond at Galmoy Mines in 2006 (Excavation licence no. 06E0298). A dark spread of burnt and fire-shattered stones (c. 4m x 5m) possibly representing a trough area surrounded by a larger spread (c. 19m x 20m; T 0.1m) of ash-like material and scatterings of burnt stones. Some possible satellite features were noted to the W of the central spread. The monument was preserved in situ. Another fulacht fia (KK003-044----) was discovered c. 35 m to the SE.
