Fulacht fia in Carrowpadeen

Fulacht fia

What is recorded here

In pasture, on level ground with gently rising ground c. 40m to NW. This fulacht fia is evident as a roughly circular, grass-covered mound (16m E–W; 17.3m N–S) which is well defined at E–NW by a pronounced slope (H 0.65-0.7m at E; 0.5-0.55m at S–SW). On the NW–N side there is a shallow slumped depression (5-6m E–W; 4m N–S), most likely indicating the location of the trough. Angular stone fragments in a matrix of black charcoal-rich soil are revealed on the E side where the sod cover is eroded.
