Fulacht fia in Bolton

Fulacht fia

What is recorded here

An eight-metre circle of shattered stone appeared in Kildare soil during pipeline work, a possible fulacht fia doomed before proper excavation. The builders likely heated water there for cooking or cleansing, then vanished into centuries of forgetting. Men with machines broke the circle open, photographed its edges and erased it within days. What remains is a written shadow of a place that no longer exists, preserving only the shape of its loss.
Spread of shattered stones (diam. c. 8m) uncovered during work on the gas pipeline corridor. Destroyed before excavation, but recorded as a possible fulacht fia. No further information (Cleary et al. 1987, 5). Date of upload: 16 September 2016
