What is recorded here

Meltwater, not magic. Heat stones, drop them into the wooden trough, drink or cook. The wicker and moss at the base suggest padding, not mystery. Two troughs, one oval and one rectangular, mean the site repeated or adapted. People worked there across centuries, not once. The flat burnt stone marks a place where water was made useful.

Spread of burnt stone, 14m E-W x 8m N-S, 0.1m deep. Two small troughs underneath. One oval 1.5m x 1.3m and 0.35m deep. Layer of wicker at base with evidence of decayed organic material, possibly moss. Ring of stakeholes around base of trough. Surviving fragment of stake radiocarbon dated to 1120-858 cal BC. Second trough sub-rectangular 1.28m x 0.98m and 0.2m deep. Several lengths of unworked timber lying on base. Possibly a floor, or may have collapsed in. radiocarbon date 1727-1528 cal BC.
