Knocknagappul was a MacCarthy Reagh castle on a natural rise overlooking the Bandon River. It has vanished completely, leaving no surface trace despite appearing as a dotted square on an 1842 map. The land keeps the shape of a lost fortress while denying it to every searching hand.

Built by the MacCarthy Reagh dynasty, likely in the 15th or 16th century. It is important as a historical site associated with the powerful Gaelic lords of Carbery.
