Fort Davis

Detached seven-bay single-storey over basement barracks, built c. 1810, with lean-to porches to central and end bays. Now disused. Pitched slate roof with rendered chimneystacks and cast-iron rainwater goods. Single-pitched slate roofs to porches, one with corrugated-sheet replacement. Render over rubble stone and brick walls. Square-headed openings with six-over-six timber sliding sash windows and limestone sills. Eight-pane windows to basement openings. Timber matchboard doors, approached by limestone steps.

One of a number of barrack buildings located within the irregular-plan fort. Apparent on the first edition Ordnance Survey map, this building and its neighbours were built to accommodate officers and artillery men. Retaining much original fabric, the group is an interesting reminder of the type, variety and form of barrack building in the early nineteenth century.
