What is recorded here
Forge or smithy in Tubride is a domestic outbuilding now, still wearing its horseshoe entrance and 1868 date plaque. That’s a fierce amount of professional experience to bring to keeping a lawnmower dry.
Detached gable-fronted single-bay single-storey forge, dated 1868, now used as a domestic outbuilding. Horseshoe-shaped opening to entrance gable with rock-faced voussoirs, with date plaque above. Two bays to side elevations. Pitched slate roof with modern chimneystack and barge boards.
Forges of this type, with horseshoe-shaped openings, are found throughout Ireland. Fortunately this former forge has not been greatly altered and retains its original form and some original features and materials.
