17th century font located inside the parish church of St John in the town of Tralee was described in the Urban Survey of County Kerry as follows; '17th cent. Limestone. Octagonal basin with chamfered lower edge, sloping internal sides and lacking a drainage hole. The facets are tooled vertically and horizontally along the edges. One facet has I. C. in Roman lettering and PVOST in Gothic lettering. A second facet ANNO DNI 1623 in Roman lettering. The shaft and base are carved from a single block. The drum shaped shaft with sugar barley twist, rises from a rectangular base to an octagonal support which is too narrow for the basin. There may have been a further section between the shaft and the basin. One corner of the base is broken. Dims H. 94; W. of basin 69; Diam. of basin 46; T. 14. (Denny 1907-9, 366)' (Bradley et. al. 1987, 106). See attached photograph of font taken from the Urban Survey of Kerry Revised by: Caimin O'Brien Date of revised upload: 28 April 2022

Explorer Tom Architectural fragment in Tralee is an assumption panel stuck on a church wall, sparking a feud over who owns the best view. The families probably argued until they turned to stone themselves from sheer frustration. Tell the kids it's a castle. Close enough.

Explorer Tom Worker's house in Tralee used to house railway staff who probably thought they were the centre of the world back then. Now it’s a shop, which is basically a demotion, but it takes the high road. Find a local and ask them the real story, then come back and tell me.

Saint Jude'sHouse · 93 yd

Explorer Tom Saint Jude's in Tralee hosted a priest who lost a bet on his own luck. The brickwork changes style halfway up like it can't make up its mind. Go back in winter, it's a different animal.

Explorer Tom Tralee thinks it’s on the Lee River, but it’s actually sitting on the Gyle, which is slightly embarrassing for everyone involved. Locals swear by a superstition that if you drop a coin in the canal, it buys you a free pint. Tell the kids it's a castle. Close enough.
