Font in Rathkenny

There is no visible evidence of the medieval church apart from fragments of the hood-moulding of a pointed doorway and portion of a window sill in the graveyard. The bottom of a rectangular font incorporating the top of its circular stem that was noted in the graveyard in 1968 (SMR file). This is now in the porch of the old Roman Catholic church in Rathkenny (ME018-002----), c. 335m to the SW. The font is square (dims 0.5m x 0.5m; H 0.26m) with chamfered corners and a circular basin (diam. 0.39m; D 0.17m). It has a circular projection beneath (diam. 0.43m; H 0.9m) for the top of a circular stem, but much of the basin is damaged (surviving H 0.35m).
