Flat cemetery in Kilcornan (dunkellin By.)

Flat cemetery

What is recorded here

Kilbannon Parish Cemetery in County Galway holds unmarked graves beneath a flat grass surface, waiting for the chance to be counted. Its lack of visible stones does not mean it is empty, only that the dead stopped leaving shapes for human eyes to read. One day the survey may name what the soil already knows. Until then, the cemetery keeps its own time, unburdened by the need to be seen.
The Archaeological Survey of Ireland (ASI) is in the process of providing information on all monuments on The Historic Environment Viewer (HEV).
