Field system in Erneen

In rough hill pasture, on the S-facing rocky slopes of Barrerneen. Collapsed stone walls, with numerous gaps, occur intermittently and indicate a field system covering an area c. 600m NE-SW x c. 450m N-S. The surviving walls (T 0.6m; H 0.5m), which are embedded in shallow soil, are generally curvilinear and enclose fields of many shapes and sizes. The walls contain upright base stones that are set at intervals and at right angles to the line of the wall. Rubble is scattered downslope from the walls. There are four hut sites (KE102-082001-, KE102-082002-, KE102-082004-, KE102-082005-) within the system. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Kerry.
