Field boundary in Fustane Lower

Field boundary

What is recorded here

In rough hill pasture, on the S-facing slope of Mangerton Mountain. A WNW-ESE section of a field wall extends (L c. 100m) to the WNW from the W bank of a river. The wall (T 0.4m; H 0.4m) skirts the N arc of a hut site (KE084-023008-). At its W terminal this section abuts another wall (on a N-S axis) which extends to the S (L 65m) and N (L c. 90m) of the junction. The initial part of the N section extends to the N for 20m before it disappears into the bog. It re-emerges after a distance of c. 15m and continues for c. 30m before disappearing into the bog again. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Kerry. Volume I: South-West Kerry' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2009). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload: 30 May 2011
