Marian and her children watched the ship leave Fetteresso, certain it would never return. They stood in the dovecote with eggs in their hands, waiting for a pigeon to carry a line back to life. The castle doors remained closed, but the small flight of birds turned the estate into a bridge between the living and the drowned.

Fetteresso Castle, Dovecot was part of the estate of the powerful Gordon family in the 16th century. It is remembered as an example of early dovecot architecture associated with the historic Fetteresso Castle complex in Aberdeenshire.
